An Oasis of a Hotel in Palm Springs

I was recently in Palm Springs for an amazing wedding of dear friends. They put me up at the East Canyon Hotel and Spa. I added a few extra days to enjoy the Palm Springs weather and to spend a little more time with my friends.
As a travel journalist, I have experienced the world. I could not have been more pleased with this lovely establishment. I can’t remember a time when I actually looked forward to getting back to my hotel! (OK, there was the Questenberk in Prague and the SoCo Hotel in Barbados.)
This charming “home away from home” has only 14 rooms. My room was lovely and comfortable; but, that is not what makes this gem of a hotel truly remarkable. It is all about the Zen.
First, you check in and meet the new owner, Shaun (an Irishman from Galway), who immediately relaxes you with his calming acumen. It is adults only. Tucked away in a cul-de-sac, and encased in flora with quiet Zen music greeting you in the courtyard.
The lovely pool, Jacuzzi and surrounding patio area are open for your pleasure 24/7. Your mornings are greeted with a welcoming breakfast, including freshly ground coffee!
This used to be a well-known gay hotel. Shaun and his partner decided to change that. It is now “all-welcoming.” No longer are swimsuits optional, they are required. The amazing result is that new guests are arriving and no one cares about the others’ orientation. Everyone we met was cordial, polite, considerate and conversational.
Mainly, it was extremely comfortable and peaceful. I now have a new home when visiting Palm Springs. If you plan on going, I highly recommend it. Tell Shaun that Pj said hello!
