The Ultimate Halloween in Boracay, Philippines

Precisely one year ago, today, I was on the most incredible island in the world – Boracay, Philippines (voted #1 island in the world by Conde Nast). There were a number of reasons why I was there… 1) I had just been in that part of the world visiting Thailand, 2) it is the most amazing beach you can ever imagine, 3) I had friends from both the U.S. and the Philippines who were going to gather there, and 4) Halloween was on the way. And no one celebrates Halloween more festively than the people of Boracay!

This visit was one of the few times I took an entire week and simply relaxed. It was the perfect place to do that. Pristine waters that extended out the length of a football field where you could still have your head above water and clearly see your toes. Hotel staff were very attentive and helpful. We didn’t want for anything. Prices were amazingly reasonable, even our hotel located on the beach. And, the people were inviting, friendly and fun.

The icing on the cake was the unmitigated entertainment for two entire days celebrating Halloween. I began to realize that many people endured the trek (it is not a simple passage) to be there just for that occasion. I didn’t have a costume, but a young man helped me out with a mask. From hanging out with the beautiful “girly boys,” being amazed by the parade of over-the-top costumes, enjoying the music…all while sitting on the beach on glorious balmy nights…it will be the most memorable Halloween of my lifetime. (Of course, I still have more time.)
